La Finca - Flora and Fauna

Flora

La Finca residential complex is surrounded by diversified and abundant vegetation creating an especially enchanting setting. Every one of the vegetative species that grow in La Finca adds to the beauty of the place.

Among many species, the most common found in this residential complex are:

  • Olive Tree (Olea europaea L.) ,totalling 948, this tree grows in those Mediterranean areas that are exposed to the sun.
  • Carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.) , totalling 225 trees and shrubs.
  • Washingtonian Palm Tree (Washingtonia philyphera), totalling 980 trees.
  • Cypress (Cupresus Sempervirens), totalling 98 trees is a very common feature of a Mediterranean garden.
  • Bougainvillea (Bougainvillea Sanderiana), magnificent clouds of various colour floral bracts from July to September are the highlight of this strong-growing, evergreen climber.
  • Australian Pine (Casuarina Equisetifolia), used to form a wall against the salt from the sea.

La Finca also has two Palmetum, a botanical garden specializing in the conservation and display of various species of Palm trees. Among them, one can find:

  • Date Palm (Phoenix Dactilyfera). the largest concentration of this type of palm tree is located in the Spanish town of Elche.
  • The European Fan Palm (Chamaerops Humilis), a species extensively grown all over the Spanish Mediterranean coast.
  • Sago Cycad (Cycas Revoluta), a species that grows easily all over the Spanish Mediterranean zone.
  • Metal Palm Tree (Chamaedorea Metalica), very tolerant plant in temperate and warm climates.
  • Pigmy Date Palm (Phoenix Roebelenii), one of the finest and most elegant palm trees. It is a species that can reach up to 5 meters.
  • Red Neck Palm (Dypsis Lastelliana), grows perfectly in the coastal forests.
  • Foxtail Palm (Wodyetia Bifurcata), grows very well in all warm to temperate and tropical climates. It is definitely one of the most ornamental and fascinating palm trees available nowadays.

Fauna

The privileged natural environment that surrounds La Finca is inhabited by a distinctive animal population, of which Birds are the most noticeable.

  • Peacocks.
  • Ducks, from the Anatidae family
  • Geese, from the Anserinae subfamily of water fowls
  • Ocas
  • Coots (Fulica atra), ), a very popular bird in the Iberian Peninsula that inhabits vast bodies of water.
  • Red-legged Partridges (Alectoris rufa)
  • Eurasian Collared Doves (Columba palumbus)
  • Tórtolas turcas (Streptopelia decaocto)

Also, it is easy to spot other animals at La Finca such as:

  • Squirrels (Sciurus vulgaris)
  • Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
